Guest Speakers

Second Tuesday meetings feature a guest speaker or an experienced club member and focus on a type of photography, techniques for better photo editing, or photography news. Recent topics have included how to use features of Adobe and Topaz software, Astro landscape photography, self-portraiture, and artificial intelligence in photography.

Critique and Judged Competitions

Meetings on the fourth Tuesday of most months are for critique and competition. We usually invite external judges who, in many cases, have previously presented to the club. Our members see how the judges critique photos on impact, technical merit, and composition.

The competition is anonymous. Members say that the critiques and competitions improve their photography, and they appreciate having their photos posted on the club’s website. From time to time, we have competitions judged by members. In fact, a recent photo scavenger hunt judged by members was one of our most popular competitions.

Our annual competition is a great opportunity to see the best of the best photographs submitted to competitions throughout the year.

Learning

Many club members specialize in a particular area of photography, for example, urban landscapes or portraits, and are great sources of information, examples, and inspiration. From time to time, they lead special topic meetings, which are also on Tuesdays. In recent months, members have presented on topics including focus stacking, night photography, intentional camera movement, and compositing.

Field Trips

Many members appreciate the opportunity to work one-on-one with an experienced mentor to master new skills or try a new type of photography. It is fascinating to see the different images members capture and how they edit photos of the same scene. A longstanding member usually organizes and manages these activities. Some field trips are linked to an upcoming competition. During 2022, participants in field trips explored shadows, night photography, light painting, and other topics.
