About the Club
The Chapel Hill Camera Club, founded in 1978, is a community of over 70 photography-minded individuals from Chapel Hill, North Carolina and surrounding towns and cities such as Pittsboro and Durham. Some call themselves enthusiasts, others have deep skills in one or two types of photography, and others consider themselves beginners. Most of us use digital cameras, some use phones, film cameras, drones, or other devices. We share the love of creating images, the desire to share them, and the quest to become better photographers.
We come together to learn, talk about photography, show our photos, and see photographs from others. At the end of the day, we inspire each other to make better and better photographs.
Mission To share the enjoyment of photography and satisfy the creative instincts of our members through fellowship, inclusion, support, and outreach.
Meetings
At our meetings, we explore types of photography and build our skills. We have a photo critique and competition session most months. Members say that watching expert judges critique photographs and seeing how judges would improve photographs is one of the things they value most about being a member of the club.
We encourage photographers of all levels to submit their photos, and the photos are viewed without showing the name of the photographer. Critique is paired with competition, and photographers with highly ranked photos see their work posted on our website. All club members gain insight into what differentiates outstanding photos from good photos.
Regular club meetings are held from 7-9 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, with special presentations scheduled on other Tuesdays on an ad-hoc basis. We currently meet virtually by Zoom, but we hope to resume meeting in person or as hybrid (in-person and virtual) meetings soon. When we return to meeting in person, we will be at the Seymour Center located at 2551 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill, N.C.
